DIGISEQ, the wearable payments tech pioneer, and its partners Infineon Technologies AG, the leading security solutions and chip manufacturer, and Thales, a global leader in cybersecurity, continue their collaboration to deliver next generation Advanced Encryption Secure (AES) data encryption for DIGISEQ’s wearable provisioning following the recent introduction of Secure Channel Protocol 3 (SCP03). As part of the updated Global Platform Card Specification, SCP03 strengthens security in environments where data is transferred over the air, like payment tokenisation.
Angela Davies, Head of Partnerships at DIGISEQ, comments: “In a world of ever-increasing data breaches, DIGISEQ constantly maintains the highest standards of security. DIGISEQ concentrates on the distribution and delivery of sensitive data to secure chips, and it is of paramount importance that this data is protected and secure from point to point. We recognised immediately that the SCP03 protocol will be the de-facto standard for payment tokenisation for wearables, so it was critical for us to lead the way in this adoption. Working with Infineon and Thales, we’re delighted that our RCOS™ mobile provisioning platform offers the strongest wearable tech security and consumer convenience in the industry.”
DIGISEQ’s RCOS™ over-the-air mobile personalisation and tokenisation service are leading the way in adopting the new SCP03 standard, ensuring all provisioned payment data is fully protected to the highest available standards, while continuing to deliver the fastest self-provisioning service in the industry.
DIGISEQ has integrated Infineon’s SECORA™ Pay W and SECORA™ Connect S solutions, delivering not just the highest level of security but also the flexibility to create ultra-small antenna with improved contactless read range to open up the market to smaller, more intricate devices. Unlike active wearables such as smartwatches, which are restricted by limited battery life, DIGISEQ’s wearable tech is passive, directly harnessing power form the terminal or handset to transact. With the addition payment security functionality from Thales and Infineon Technologies, DIGISEQ’s technology can offer consumers the most robust wearable device security, reliability, and convenience.
Todd Moore, Vice President for Data Security Products at Thales, comments: “A successful transaction with a wearable relies on the ability to secure a complicated payments ecosystem involving the merchant, acquirer, switch and bank or card issuer. With so many points of vulnerability, it is critical to protect sensitive data wherever it is and control access to this data, even in an untrusted environment. At Thales, we’re proud to provide technology to DIGISEQ that will meet today’s government and industry regulations and standards and anticipate tomorrow’s security challenges.”
The Infineon SECORA™ Pay portfolio delivers contactless payment functionality through a range of solutions, including pre-certified payment options and Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express payment support. With SECORA™ Connect, smart wearables can store multiple user credentials for contactless payments, transportation ticketing, and other applications using NFC, turning them into powerful and versatile multi-application devices.
DIGISEQ’s PCI DSS level 1, and PCI CPP certified wearable platform uses the latest generation of Thales’ hardware security modules (HSMs), specifically the payShield 10K, which is the fifth generation of payment HSMs from Thales and delivers a suite of payment security functionality proven in critical environments, including transaction processing, sensitive data protection, payment credential issuing, mobile card acceptance and payment tokenisation. The payShield 10K is used throughout the global payment ecosystem by issuers, service providers, acquirers, processors, and payment networks.
Tolgahan Yildiz, Head of Payment Solutions at Infineon’s Connected Secure Systems Division comments: “The field powered wearable portfolio from Infineon allows fast and seamless integration into NFC personalisation and tokenisation services based on the latest Global Platform Card Specification. We are delighted that DIGISEQ, as Associated Partner within the Infineon Security Partner Network, has deep knowledge about the Infineon products and has successfully integrated the SECORA™ Pay W and SECORA™ Connect S solutions into its RCOS™ service offering.”
DIGISEQ’s ground-breaking technology is revolutionising wearable payments by allowing consumers to register and activate their item using their payment card, through DIGISEQ’s Manage MiiTM mobile app, which can be white-labelled with the branding of its clients, essentially making it an invisible payments partner.
By promoting the use of wearable tech, brands, banks, and issuers can reduce their reliance on producing plastic cards, as DIGISEQ handles the over-the-air personalisation and payment enablement of the wearable item from end to end, saving banks and original equipment manufacturers vast amounts of time and money. This also helps significantly reduce the amount of plastic used for cards, improving environmental and sustainability efforts.
